“Seeing first hand the marked change in the students’ demeanour, the outward relief and improved confidence levels from working with the horses was astonishing.

It was also very apparent that they were reflecting on the discussions which were having a positive impact, and ultimately making a difference to helping them for the future.”

Over many years as the South West & Wales Recovery Manager for Help for Heroes, the equine therapy courses provided by the Warrior Equine team stand out as one of the most effective recovery activities in a Veterans recovery journey. I have witnessed life changes that were previously unthinkable for many Veterans with mental health issues, including PTSD.

Working with horses in this way has proven in to be a powerful and effective step to an individual’s recovery. I have been personally moved when witnessing the transformation following participation in the Warrior Equine courses.

Now that the dust has settled I just wanted to provide some feedback from the 3 x WIS (wounded, injured & sick) who attended the recent course.

The positive change in all 3 x WIS has been noticeable and had a tangible effect on their attitude to their recovery and engagement within the PRU. In particular their self-confidence has noticeably improved – evident by their positive improvement in both interaction and attitude in subsequent visits to the PRU.

All have come back significantly more focussed and enthused on their approach to their own recovery. Whilst I cannot comment on other WIS, their feedback was overwhelmingly positive – none have an equestrian background.

Clearly the course works and I can only hope that it continues so that others can benefit. Thank you for all of your hard work to ensuring that this was able to happen.
